Hangup

A mental block within a single mind established to protect an Idea from Criticism; a form of self-thwarting.

Hangups are passed from adults to children. They impede personal Progress through emotional intimidation — fear, shame, and guilt used to shield certain ideas from scrutiny. A hangup is internal Coercion.
